At TNC we are creating "students of life" in our Learning, Emotional & Social Development programs. Our participants gain a critical continuation of education and instruction through programs such as Creative Arts, Media, Music and Movement. The combination of these opportunities in a real-world setting help to develop a strong sense of community and belonging. And, provides a rock-solid foundation for progression into our other programs.
Our Creative Arts Program creates a space for exploration...allowing participants to learn, grow and inspire one another and serve as an outlet for their emotions. An atmosphere is created, where individuals are free to express themselves through a variety of artistic mediums and dynamic projects to engage individuals across various interests, skills, and abilities.
Health & Wellness introduces our participants to a variety of fitness and movement instruction, as well as yoga, meditation, stress management & healthy eating. We take TNC’s people-first approach and find a way to help all of our participants work towards fitness and health goals tailored specifically to them. It is our goal that everyone who attends Health and Wellness will work towards being a happy, healthy, and independent member of our community.
The Media Arts program offers participants an opportunity to learn and further develop their writing skills in journalism, poetry, and personal expression. Our sound-proofed Media Lab is fully equipped with the technology required for participants to fully explore photography, podcasting and video/audio recording sessions. From these sessions comes our podcast "Agents of Humanity" as well as our monthly print, "Navigator Newsletter" and news updates from "Nicholas Center News."
In addition to our Media Arts program, our individuals participate in music lessons from a local partnership, Bach to Rock. Participants form bands through this specialty program and learn to play an instrument of their choice while practicing and preparing for various showcases throughout the year- including our annual TNC Musical. We also offer music therapy in-house for individuals who may not want to play an instrument but want to engage in other music-related skills and interests.
